If you have a placement offer in hand , it is not a big issue in not clearing CAT this year. You can work for 2-3 years and then attempt CAT through which you can get into top institute.

IITs are the most sought after technical Institutes in India with international fame and brand. Students for IIT are selected on the basis of JEE Advanced. Legacy, IITs have the world class faculty, facilities and infrastructure. As best of Indian talent gets admission in IIT their placements is the best.
NITs were earlier known as Regional Engineering College. Though not as good as IITs, they are also excellent institutes for engineering. NITs select students based on JEE Main. It is the second best option after IITs for engineering education. You may refer to following link for ranking for IITs and NITs subject wise:

if you are preparing for jee mains and advanced then practice is must .the book you choose is not important. if your basics are strong then doing 10 to 20 questions of all the subjects everyday will prove better.

A minimum of 75 percentile is required for a OBC category to get admission in. Any work experience less than 12 months never matters in your selection process

It is almost impossible to get a seat in any NIT with your JEE marks. I suggest giving the exams again if you are genuinely interested in studying in one such university.
