Petroleum Engineering is sector specified and placements will be limited to the specific sectors in industry. There are more opportunities some countries, especially in the middle east where petroleum exploration is an established big business. Pay packets can be heavy.

Petroleum engineers are employed in jobs which are mainly concentrated in oil and gas extraction, professional, scientific and technical services and petroleum refining.

The definition of best varies from person to person , go with the one in which you have the maximum interest. Civil engineering has more scope in India as compared to petroleum engineering
