Both fields have equal job opportunities. But, Petroleum industry witness lots of up's and down's in a year. You can't predict the exact nature of petroleum field. I would say Marine engineering has an upper hand both in terms of salary as well as job opportunities availability.

Hello !most of the institutions allot the seats on the basis on JEE ranks but if you havent done well in JEE ,dont worry there are colleges who conducts their own entrance examination to provide high scholarship.here are some of the colleges where you can get admission by cracking their entrance test:

Now a days there are a lot of mechanical engineers in our country but there is a crisis of petroleum engineers.
I would recommend you to pursue petrol engineering as it as has high salary and even there a lot of jobs .
