Both Aeronautical and Petroleum engineering are niche degrees with major opportunities in Government and Public Sector Units. Opportunities in both the field are similar. Currently because of international oil price crash Petroleum industry is in bit of crisis worldwide. However I feel it's a temporary phenomenon. If both subject are of equal interest to you, choose your specialization based on Institute brand image, ranking and placement record.

You can pursue petroleum engineering.
Even M.Sc. in chemistry pass outs can do post graduate programs in petroleum engineering.
Job profile after completing the degree:
• The activities like exploration, production and exploitation of oil and natural gases.
• Activities such as the refining, marketing and distributing of petroleum products.
Prepare for the entrance exam. Fees may range between 7 to 9 lakhs.
Initial salary may range between 3k to 50k per month.

Petroleum engineering is a good engineering course. It has a huge scope in India as well as abroad. Petroleum engineering has huge advantage because number of petroleum engineers in India are very low. Salary is also good than other engineering courses.
