Hello Anuj,
No, it's not good to opt for polytechnic after 12th. You must first exhaust trying to get admission in engineering colleges. If it fails then only go for polytechnic.

Civil, mechanical or electrical are the three perpetual branches in which you can get trained. There are enough opportunities in market in all these three areas.

You may get a job on the basis of your Diploma degree. There are many colleges which allow B.E along with the job. The classes will be in evening and practicals will be on weekends. So try to find a job near to the institute.
Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Milia University-New Delhi, Delhi Technical University are few such institutes. All the best.

You should first take JEE Mains and see where do you stand. If you are way down, then it's time to ask, why engineering? There are equally interesting professions around.

If your score is less and you are not able get admission, it's time you go to a career counselor. Engineering is not the end of the world.

Yes, 3 years Diploma of engineering after 12th is expensive in terms of time duration and is also fact, though a qualified 10th board student can do Diploma engineering by cracking polytechnic joint entrance examination, it is mostly 12th qualified with science stream can get qualified for better and reputed polytechnic engineering colleges. But, we don't forget Diploma engineering is 10+3 (based on minimum eligibility) is one year more and after completion of which you will have opportunity to be recruited as junior engineer in private, PSU, and in Govt. sector.
