IITs and NITs are the best and first choice of any student. You can pursue Diploma in engineering, and then get admission for B.Tech in a decent college. But, if your will pursue Diploma, then you will miss the opportunity to get admission in NITs and IITs as they don't provide lateral entry admission.

Yes, you can, but you can rather opt for BCA and MCA for good career into information technology industry with various roles into business analytics and business intelligence for great career.

12th is the Basic Foundation of every student. If you didn't do then you miss lots of Opportunities and your scope will become limited.

I recommend taking a drop. Because few colleges don't accept Diploma (polytechnic) students into 2nd year. So, your options after polytechnic will be limited.
