Retail is a specialized form of marketing only. It is not the question of high / low reputation but of awareness and availability. General PGDM is available in all institutions - specialized courses like retail / insurance are offered at select institutions only. As a sector , retail is the biggest industry in Indian economy contributing to 13% of GDP - compared to IT which is around 6%. But everyone one knows about it.

It depends on individuals interest. As you have graduated in arts, it is different from your studies. But you can learn concepts and models of marketing as it is very visible in real world. So, if you are determined to work and study in marketing than you can choose it.

There is no consideration of experience for a call, if you clear the cutoff you will get a call.
Last year cut-off are CAT - 86 percentile, CMAT - 96 percentile and XAT - 78 percentile.
Chances are bleak but worth a shot.
