Only way you can deal with common mistakes is with lots of practice before hand. If you develop a sense of familiarity during the main exam, you will only have to focus on the questions before you instead of any other behavioral trait leading to mistakes. Follow some points. Don't stress out. If you feel the paper is way too tough or way too easy for what you have practiced, don't worry about it.
