Established in 1885, Stanford University was named as Leland Stanford Junior University. This university was established in memory of Jane who was Leland Stanford's only child Leland Jr. When his child was just 15 years old, he died of typhoid fever.
Jane and Leland Stanford after their son's death determined that they would use their wealth to do something for other people's children. Their purpose of building this university was to promote public welfare.
Stanford opened its doors on Oct 1, 1891, with some 555 students enrolled in the first year.

As an Indian you require an extremely strong profile to gain admission in the MBA programme in Stanford. This involves good academic track record (average GPA of 3.75), good GMAT (average 738) or good GRE scores, 5 to 10 years of good quality of work experience which proves leadership. Presenting appealing essays to open your story and values, as well as powerful references, is essential. Moreover, you are also supposed to have a high score in English Proficiency test (TOEFL 113, IELTS 7.0, or PTE 68) unless your previous education was purely in English.
