Depending on the program's language of instruction, Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) Munich may require overseas students to take the IELTS. The IELTS is one of the recognised examinations for demonstrating English language competency, which is required for programs taught in that language. Although some programs may have more stringent prerequisites, generally speaking, applicants must have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or above. English proficiency is normally not required for programs taught in German; instead, students must demonstrate their competency in the German language with assessments such as TestDaF or DSH.
