As stated by Shiksha user (Harsimran Singh B.E. in Electronics and Computer Engineering - Batch of 2029), Thapar Uiniversity offers value for Money. A total of 60-70 percent of students are placed. 1.3 crores package is the highest, and 11 LPA is around the average package. All major companies came for recruitment (FAANG and all). Hostel facilities are pretty good except in some 1st year rooms, AC and attached washrooms are available with attached balcony, mess food is provided by French company Sudexo. Extra-curricular activities rooms are also present in hostels. Overall crowd is also good.

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology or Thapar University is one of India's well-established private engineering institutes. For a B.Tech it is a very famous college with strong placements, infrastructure & good faculty. Large IT firms (TCS, Infosys, Cognizant), product companies (Microsoft, Amazon, etc.) and core-sector employers (L&T, Bosch) participate. Startups and internships are common.

According to reviews on Shiksha ( Karanbir Singh, B.E. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2021), the placement of this college was one of the best among the private colleges. The main companies for recruiting were TCS, Tata Motors, Microsoft, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, etc. The roles that were offered were production engineer, design engineer, quality engineer, etc. The campus provided smart classrooms to all the department students with A/C. Mechanical labs were highly advanced, and the CAD labs were also good and tidy. Faculty members of my branch were highly qualified. Overall, Thapar university has got good reviews

The December test at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is usually the end-semester exam for students.
It generally happens after completion of classes and practicals. The exam pattern depends on the subject, but most papers include theory-based and numerical questions. Internal marks, quizzes, labs, and attendance are also added along with end-sem scores.
The schedule, syllabus, and timings are normally shared by the university before exams, so students get enough time to prepare 👍

At Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, first-year students are usually allotted separate hostels from seniors for a smoother adjustment.
The rooms and facilities depend on the hostel type you choose (single/shared, AC/non-AC). Most hostels have basic amenities like Wi-Fi, laundry, common rooms, mess, and security.
Overall, hostel life is considered pretty decent and becomes a big part of the college experience 👍

Yes, with 80 percentile in JEE Main and 90% in boards, you do have a fair chance at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, especially through the board-based counselling rounds.
Getting top branches like CSE may still be difficult, but branches like ECE, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Biotechnology, etc. can be possible depending on cutoffs and seat availability 👍

With 78% in boards, getting into Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology may be possible, but the branch will likely depend on this year's competition and seat availability.
Higher-demand branches like CSE/COE usually close at much higher scores, so with 78% you may have better chances in branches like Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Biotechnology, etc.
Cutoffs change every round, so it's hard to predict exactly, but you should still participate in counselling because lower branches can definitely be possible 👍
