TOEFL is not universally compulsory for Indian students. While many universities require it as proof of English proficiency, some institutions may accept other forms of evidence, such as previous education in English or alternative tests like Duolingo.

Yes, you can take the TOEFL exam at home. The Educational Testing Service (ETS), which administers the TOEFL, offers a TOEFL Home Edition that allows candidates to take the test from the comfort of their own homes.

There is no official "pass" or "fail" score in TOEFL exam. The TOEFL is designed to assess your English proficiency on a scale of 1 to 120. Your results are reported as a total score along with individual section scores for Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

No, with a TOEFL score of 74, you likely won't meet the minimum requirements for graduate programs at Purdue University, which requires a minimum overall score of 80 on the iBT, with minimum section scores of Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

There is no major difference exists in the registration process for both versions of TOEFL. For TOEFL iBT at a test center, you select your preferred location during registration. For the Home Edition, you choose a suitable date and time for taking the test at home

It is better to register for TOEFL at least 2–3 months before your university application deadline, so your TOEFL scores reach on time. You can do TOEFL registration as early as 6 months before the exam, or also as late as 2 days before the test date.

For LLM admissions abroad, you need to take english proficiency test such as IELTS or TOEFL, if english is not your native language. However, you don't need to take GRE or GMAT, unless the course specifically requires it.

In the TOEFL Speaking section, you will encounter six questions divided into two independent tasks and four integrated tasks. The types of questions include:

  • Independent Tasks: These require you to express your opinion or preference on familiar topics (e.g., "What is your favorite book and why?").
  • Integrated Tasks: These involve reading a passage and listening to a conversation or lecture before responding (e.g., summarizing information from both sources).
    Specific question types include:
    • Agree or disagree statements
    • Preference questions
    • Descriptive prompts
    • Imaginary scenarios
