Yes, absolutely. We recommend applying to 5-8 universities together. This make sure that you have many offer options to compare in scholarship, fees, rankings and location before accepting one. There is no UCAS restriction for Master's applications — you can apply to as many universities as you wish at the same time.

From start to visa approval, full process takes 3-5 months-

  • Document preparation: 1–2 weeks.
  • Application to offer letter: 2–4 weeks (some universities respond within 8–10 working days).
  • Deposit and CAS: 1–2 weeks after deposit payment.
  • Visa processing: 3–8 weeks (average: 3–4 weeks).

For September intake, we recommend starting the process by February–March. For January intake, starting by August–September is ideal.

IELTS score required depend on university and course, but here is guide-

  • 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5): Entry-level threshold for many mid-ranked universities.
  • 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0): The most common requirement across UK universities.
  • 7.0 overall (no band below 6.5): Required by Russell Group and highly competitive programmes.

If you have 6.0 bands currently, you are close — improving your Reading band from 5.5 to 6.0 while maintaining other bands at 6.5 will open up significantly more options.

Note- Shiksha Study Abroad provides free IELTS preparation classes (multiple batches) to help you improve your score.

Gap Years- Gap of up to 2 years after graduation is accepted by UK universities. You may be asked to explain the gap in your SOP or during a pre-CAS interview. Valid reasons include exam preparation, family responsibilities, or health reasons.

Gap of 3+ years- Accepted at many universities if accompanied by work experience or a clear explanation.

Credit Transfer- The UK generally does not have a standard credit transfer system. However, if you have started but not completed a Master's elsewhere, some universities may admit you to a specific year based on your prior learning assessment.

Note- We prepare students thoroughly for pre-CAS inte

Most UK universities accept IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and PTE Academic. Here are the standard benchmarks for Master's programmes:

IELTS: Overall 6.0 – 7.0 (with no individual band below 5.5 or 6.0 depending on the university).

TOEFL iBT: 79–100 (varies by university).

PTE Academic: 50–65 overall (roughly equivalent to IELTS 6.0–6.5).

Duolingo English Test: Some universities accept DET scores of 100+.

Note: Higher-ranked universities require higher scores. Always check the specific English requirement for your chosen course — some departments set higher thresholds than the general university minimum.

Yes many UK universities accept students with backlogs, particularly those ranked outside top 50. But-

  • Russell Group and top-50 universities generally do not accept backlogs.
  • Universities ranked 51–200 may accept 1–2 cleared backlogs with a good overall percentage.
  • Universities ranked 200+ generally accept backlogs freely as long as the degree is completed.

Your counsellor will specifically target universities that match your backlog history during shortlisting.

Academic requirements differ by university tier, but here are some benchmarks for Indian students-

  • Russell Group universities (top 24)- 70%+ in graduation, good IELTS, relevant course background.
  • Mid ranked universities- 60-70% in graduation, IELTS 6.0-6.5.
  • Lower ranked or pathway universities- 55-60% in graduation, IELTS 5.5-6.0.

Most UK universities consider overall percentage in UG degree. 10th and 12th marks are also reviewed but carry less weight for Master's admissions.

Note- Students with backlogs may still be eligible at many universities. Your counsellor will identify the best-fit universities based on your specific academic profil

There is no single universal minimum, but here is guide-

  • 60% and above- Eligible for many good universities including many ranked in top 100-200 globally.
  • 55-60% - Still eligible for accredited universities with internship and PSW visa options.
  • Below 55%- Pathway programs are available that help bridge gap and lead into Masters.

Note- Even with low percentage, good IELTS score, relevant work experience, or good SOP can make significant difference in your application.
