B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at SASTRA University is well respected, with a huge infrastructure, well-equipped labs, and experienced lab assistants. The department ranks among the top institutions for mechanical engineering, and there is a students' run club, Sastra Racing Club, which makes its own car. Core companies like Caterpillar, Brakes India, Rane, TCS, and Bosch recruit mechanical students. However, the placement ratio is better for Mechatronics students, and the syllabus needs to be upgraded. Average students with decent CGPA can get placed in IT giants, while those who work hard can get placed in good core companies with better packages, especially for women.
