SRM College of Occupational Therapy was started in the academic year 1996 under the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. In 2004, the college was brought under the ambit of SRM University, and in the same year, a postgraduate program was started. SRM College is the only occupational therapy college to offer BOT, MOT, and PhD programs in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the colleges in South India that is recognized by the All India Occupational Therapists' Association (AIOTA), the National Governing body of the profession, and World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), the apex professional body worldwide, and accredited by NAAC with graded A+. Many organizations recognize the college but it is not a ranked college.

To secure a seat to this course, candidates must pass Class 12 from a recognised board with minimum of 60% aggregate.
