Hi Swami,
The tourism sector is the cluster of production units in different industries that provide goods and services typically demanded by visitors. Such industries are called tourism industries because visitor demand represents such a significant share of their supply of goods and services that, in the absence of visitors, their production of these goods and services would cease to exist in meaningful quantity.
Tourism industries include: Accommodation for visitors, Food and beverage serving activities, Passenger transportation, Travel agencies and other reservation activities, Cultural activities, Sports and recreational activities, etc.

There are people from diverse sectors including hotels and restaurants, ayurvedics, tourist guides and several tourists spots and parks that depend on tourists and hence statistics may be of good significance to them.

HI Swami,
Managing your own travel agency can be an exciting and rewarding career prospect but if you don't know what you're doing, your business will go downhill very fast.A travel agency sells travel-related products and services on behalf of suppliers such as airlines, car rentals, hotels and sightseeing tours.
Home based travel agency is a set up of the same work only at your residence rather than in a commercial space.
Eligibility:
If you plan to sell air tickets through a retail travel agency, then you will need the International Air Travel Association (IATA) Diploma.
This has become the benchmark for the travel industry, and provides credibility to deal with airlines and other partners in the travel sector.
Marketing:
Join societies and organizations specifically for travel agents. These organizations can increase your visibility to consumers as well as your credibility as an agent. The National Association of Commissioned Travel Agents (NACTA), or the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Many more process would be involved such as company registration, bank account links, service tax registration etc. You would be able to get more information from any authorized IATA center.

The eligibility criteria is that you have to have passed class 12, then you can go for admission in various types of degree or certificate programmes in hospitality tours and travel courses. I would strongly recommend doing a degree courses like BBA in hospitality travel and tourism rather than a certificate courses as it helps in better knowledge and good placement. After that you can go ahead and take admissions based on direct admission or entrance tests that you have to clear in order to matrciulate yourself to this course. Travel and tourism is seeing a steep rise and hence has better opportunities. You can go for colleges like UTM Shillong, YMCA, Asian Academy of Filam and Television. UTM has better placement and courses in this domain. All the best.
