Definitely, there is a minimum requirement of 60 percentage marks in the class 12th and a good GPA in the first year and no character default. One should also have a genuine reason for leaving the older institution. Also, there are numerous students studying in lateral entry so it will not be a big deal for you.

There are certain criteria that need to be satisfied if you want to get admission into and undergraduate course, namely B.Tech in your case, in Thapar University:
1. 10+2 with 60%marks and 55% for SC/ST
2. At least 20% marks in JEE Main (15% for SC/ST)
or
1. 10+2 with at least 80% marks (75% for SC/ST) aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of- Chemistry, Biology or Computer Science
2. 15% marks in JEE Main (10% for SC/ST)

Yes, if you want to quit Diploma course, you can start BBA afresh by taking admission in the 1st year of the same.
You will have to sacrifice one year.
