Candidates must have pursued a B.Arch from a reputed college and must possess the desired skills to pursue an M.Arch such as Analytical skills, Communication Skills and Creativity. In any way you would have to study yourself. A teacher will only show you the path. It is you, who will walk. If you can prepare it yourself then there is no need of wasting your time elsewhere but if you need help then you must join. You should ask yourself, what is your need?
No, even BITS has very good placements.
IISc and NITs are good options for doing M.Tech beside IITs. If you are CSE or IT graduate then IIIT are equally good options for doing M.Tech.
NITs, IIITs, DTU, NIST, IIST and state government colleges are good options for doing engineering other then IITs.
IITs are the best technical institutes of India followed by NITs in every state. Moreover, the top ranking NITs that include NIT Warangal and NIT Trichy are equivalent to IITs.
Devoting two full years for competitive exam preparation has its own merits and demerits. It is worth try option if you want to become an engineer from IIT only. If you succeed then you do not lose much but failure will lead to two productive years wastage / loss.

Perhaps, this is not the forum to explain about tricks. However, if you join any coaching class for crash course, then you will understand & learn precisely this.
Unfortunately, IIT does not offer any graduation degree courses for Commerce students.
