While both these career options are stable and rewarding, current trends indicate that students prefer MBA over M.Tech. Besides opening various employment avenues across industries, an MBA degree gives students a chance to build a promising f... View more

avg package for mechanical guy in iits
starts from 8 lacs and maximum goes to 60 lacs per annum
Hello Vikas,
Companies salary packages are almost wholly dependent on demand and supply. More supply means less salary and less supply means higher salary. Also, MNCs normally offer better packages than Indian companies. All in all, you can expect CTC of around 4 to 6 Lakhs per annum.

Well both are very different exams, but mainly in India scholars prefer IIT, because in SAT colleges are very expensive.
While it's a fact that most of the universities abroad only know IITs, you still have a good chance to get admission on the basis of your strong profile that includes researches, publications, internships, leadership projects, etc. Letter of recommendations from your professors employer will also helps. Another way is to suggest a research area and if university likes it, you will be accepted.

You need to qualify the JEE Mains and then appear for JEE Advance. If you do excellent in Advanced, only then you could get into IIT.
Marks-ranks correlation can change wildly from year to year. One of my friend got a 351/480 and was ranked 408 in JEE 2011. In JEE 2010, someone who got 350 was in the top 100.
All I can say is if you want CS in a top IIT, you have to score as high as you can and get a rank as low as you can. For IIT Bombay, that's some 2-digit rank and for other 4 older IITs, it will be some where around 200 or so (in that range). For Guwahati and Roorkee, 500ish or 600ish should be enough I guess.
