Mechanical engineering is the father branch of automobile engineering.
Mechanical deals with the basics and core concepts that are used in almost every mechanical object but automobile deals with only subjects or courses that would help in making or studying an automobile altogether. Basics are same such as thermodynamics, strength of material, theory of machines, heat transfer, refrigeration etc
The better would be to do mechanical engineering as it would help you getting good job opportunities including jobs in automobile sector too.

NIT Calicut, NIT Tiruchirappali, MNIT Allahabad, UPES Dehradun & VIT Vellore are some of the good colleges for pursuing automobile engineering. These accept JEE Mains score but cut off varies from college to college. You can get admission only if your JEE score match their cut offs.

1. RWTH Aachen.
2. University of Bayreuth.
3. Technical University of Munich.
4. Technical University of Berlin.
For USA:
1. Michigan State University.
2. Indiana University.
3. Cornell University.
4. Kettering University.
5. Virginia Polytechnic.
You will need SAT and TOEFL for it.
While UK does not offer post work visa:
1. University of Bristol.
2. University of Leeds, Nottingham, etc. are the good ones.
