As an alumni of LPU, i can share the details for LPU as i don't know about other Institute. Being Alumni of LPU, I would like to answer this question. At LPU, Admission in any programme depends on qualifying the Eligibility criteria for that programme.
So, as per the official website of LPU, the Eligibility Criteria (Qualifying Exam) is defined as - Pass with 60% aggregate marks in 10+2 (with Physics Mathematics and English or equivalent, subject to qualifying LPUNEST.
LPUNEST is National Entrance and Scholarship Test for admission to various programmes in Lovely Professional University. This test forms the basis of Eligibility and Scholarship for most of the programmes and for some of the programmes test is applicable only for scholarship. LPU NEST serves both the purposes. Also, if you have qualified LPU NEST for Eligibility purpose, you can also improve your score for Scholarship purpose as well.
For qualifying the LPU NEST for Eligibility purpose, around 40% marks are required but for Scholarship purpose, cut-offs are required to be qualified for LPU NEST. So, qualifying the same, you can proceed for Admissions. Admissions in LPU have started for most of the programmes.
LPU is currently inviting applications for B.Tech in various streams, so you can apply from their website.
In order to apply for the Exam, you can refer the following steps :
1 Register yourself on the portal
2. Fill the details
3. Choose the programme
4. Apply for LPUNEST
5. Make the payment for LPUNEST and Book the slot for the Exam i.e date and time for the exam as per your availability.
6. Appear and Qualify the LPUNEST and wait for Result
7. Participate in Online Counselling and Seat Allotment Process if applicable
8. After the seat allotment, proceed for Admissions.

So, qualifying the Eligibility criteria and by participating in the online counselling schedule as mentioned on the website based on merit seat will be allocated to you and you can proceed for Admissions in any programme in LPU.

Basic eligibility to apply for B.Tech in Mechatronics engineering from Chhatrapati Shivaji Institute of Technology is that candidate should have passed class 12 exams with mandatory subjects in Mathematics.
Other Eligibility criteria:
Candidate must have passed diploma in the relevant field of engineering with minimum 45%of marks from a recognized university.
Candidates having graduation in science with minimum 45% of marks in aggregate and mathematics as mandatory subjects in 10+2 can also apply.
Merit Screening:
Admission is based on the marks obtained in diploma in engineering.
Candidates having graduation will also be eligible in case seats remains vacant.
