Yes, it is possible, if you are doing from a university, which comes under UGC, then when you finish you're MA in psychology, then it is eligible and you are eligible to become a professional counselor.

I think you should take clinical psychology, because that will help you in becoming a therapist. Applied psychology is more about learning how to apply psychological theories. If you do clinical psychology, you can treat mental disorders (not like a psychiatrist) which applied psychology won't allow.
