Yes, you can pursue a BDes in Product Design coming from a non-science background. Applicants from any stream background in Class 12 are eligible to apply for the course. However, there's no doubt that for Students with a Science stream background, it will be easier to understand the technical part of the Product Design curriculum.

Of course, you can work for UI or UX Design after completing a BDes in Product Design. Product Design encompasses not only physical goods and merchandise but also digital products, applications, websites, and platforms. A BDes in Product Design course will provide you with the basic knowledge of design and editing software.

Though coding is not mandatory for BDes Product Design students, many colleges include programming languages and coding in their curriculum. It is believed that the basic knowledge of programming languages and coding helps Designers collaborate with Engineers in grasping the technicalities of a Design.

Being a Design student, the basic skill you should have is drawing and sketching skills. But don't worry, it is not mandatory to join the BDes Product Design course in India. However, entrance exams like NID and NIFT specifically conduct the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and Design Aptitude Test (DAT) to assess drawing and sketching skills. So, if you're planning to get admission to NIFT or NID institutes, you may need to work on your drawing skills.

Though they usually overlap, Product Design, Industrial Design, and UX Design are different disciplines. The Product Design works on the overall product experience, focusing on user interface, user experience, and aesthetics, ensuring a fully functional product for the end user.

You can say the UX Design is a subset of Product Design, inclined towards usability and overall user experience of a product, specifically in digital contexts. Industrial Design gives more value to the physical appearance, functionality, and manufacturability of the good, especially the ones designed for mass production.
