DET Test provides four specific subscores. Literacy checks reading and writing, while Comprehension tests listening and reading skills. Conversation measures how well you speak and listen. Production assesses your ability to write and speak. These reveal your strengths.

A good score depends on university. Most top programs prefer an "Advanced" score between 125 and 160. This level shows you can understand complex language and interact effectively in academic settings. Always check your specific course requirements first.

The test is fast. The total Duolingo English Test duration is 1 hour. It is efficient.
- Introduction (5 mins): Setup, microphone check, and ID submission.
- Adaptive Test (45 mins): The main graded section assessing all four skills.
- Writing & Speaking (10 mins): Open-ended video and writing samples sent to universities.

Yes, it is important. Using a Duolingo sample paper allows you to experience the unique computer-adaptive format and practice new question types like "Interactive Writing" in a low-pressure environment. It builds speed.
However, be realistic. The sample test is much shorter (15-30 minutes) than the actual exam, so while it is great for checking your readiness, the score it gives is only an estimate and not a guarantee. Practice daily.

No, not immediately. A single test purchase gives you 3 attempts to complete and upload the test successfully. If your internet fails or a glitch occurs, you can restart up to two more times on the same credit without paying extra.

Yes, nowadays many US universities accept Duolingo English Test (DET) for admission because it is cheap and fast. If the university accepts it and sends your I-20 Form, you can apply for visa. But remember, for visa interview, some strict officers still trust IELTS or TOEFL more.

If you want to study in Canada at Columbia College, you will need an English language test. The preferred tests are IELTS and TOEFL. This undergrad college does not accept Duolingo. In IELTS you would generally need a band score of 6.5 and if you choose to take TOEFL internet-based test, you would need a score of 72.
