Social security contributions are to be paid only by those international students who are into a permanent job in Germany. Social security contributions include pension insurance, health insurance, nursing care insurance, and unemployment insurance.

International students are not required to pay any taxes if they are earning a monthly amount of upto €450. But above this amount, they will have to pay taxes. You will receive a mail, on your provided email ID, with the text number once you've obtained your residence permit and have got your living location registered with the city. Students who are earning more than the aforementioned amount should make sure they file a tax return in order to obtain the refund for which they are eligible.
