Academic strengths: If your math skills tend to be stronger than your verbal skills, the GMAT might offer a better opportunity to show off those strengths. If you're a strong writer, consider the GRE. Due to the vocabulary involved, the GRE can sometimes be more challenging for non-native English speakers.

San Jose State University does not require GRE scores for admission to some programs, such as the MS Software Engineering, for students with a degree from an ABET-accredited institution. However, GRE scores are required for applicants from other universities. For those submitting GRE scores, the minimum requirements are typically a combined Quantitative and Verbal score of 294 or higher, and an Analytical Writing score of at least 3.0. These scores must come from a single test date and will be considered a critical factor in the evaluation process.

For the MS in Aeronautics and Astronautics programme at Stanford University, the GRE is required for admission, but there is no specific minimum score published. The admissions committee considers the scores as part of a holistic review, which includes academic records, recommendations, and other criteria. Some admitted students have reported GRE scores around 325 to 334, which gives a rough idea of the competitive range.
