In the Listening test, candidates need to answer 40 questions related to audio clips that will be played. Your answers are correct or incorrect, so the marking is slightly different from the Speaking and Writing tests. For each correct answer, you will receive one mark. Band score 7 = 30 out of a raw score of 40. Band score 8 = 35 out of a raw score of 40.

You will be given a score from 1 to 9 for each part of the test – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The average produces your overall band score. You can score whole (e.g., 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (e.g., 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) bands in each part of the test.

Possessive Adjectives, also called Pronominal Adjectives (as they are derived from Pronouns) are the Personal Pronouns “my”, “our”, “your”, “his”, “her” and “their” when used with a noun. In all other cases, these nouns remain and function like Personal Pronouns only. For example:

The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at what comes after the word.

  • If it is followed by just a noun (no verb), it is usually a Preposition.

    • For example, We went home after the movie. (Preposition)

  • If it is followed by a subject and a verb (a whole mini-sentence), it is usually a Conjunction.

    • For example, We went home after the movie ended. (Conjunction)
