You must provide a strong statement of activity justifying your gap, Irish universities are not so competitive but if you have a wasted gap of four years then you must provide supporting statements about it and that you are ready to study after this gap.Additional entrance test may be required, talk directly with some universities, get in touch with the admission representatives and they will help you.

Universities abroad are quite liberal in allowing students to choose their subjects after fulfilling certain conditions. But then it also depends on how brilliant your academic record. However as you want to change branch, it's better if you contact prospective institution beforehand.
