No, students cannot transfer to Waseda University from their current institution anymore. Only the School of Political Science and Economics (SPSE) used to accept transfer students at the university. However, it has now discontinued transfer admissions from 2026 onwards.

The university accepted transfer students until 2025. But that is not possible anymore.

There are no set minimum GPA requirements for entry to any of the schools at Waseda University Japan. Students however, are required to maintain great academic scores. The Waseda University Tokyo Acceptance Rate is only between 20% and 45%.

Students with good academics are prioritised for admission by the university. Shiksha Study Abroad counsellors (for free) can guide students the best on the requirements they need to meet to get into Waseda.

Waseda University ranks #9 in Japan, in the latest edition of the Shiksha Popularity Rankings. On a global level, it ranks #325 according to Shiksha. QS World has ranked Waseda among the top 100 universities in the world for Law, Politics & International studies, Geography, History, Marketing, Engineering, Economics, Sports, and Finance courses.

Mentioned below are the steps students can follow to shift from a student or Designated Activities visa to a work visa: 

  • Secure a Job offer from a Japanese company  

  • Ask your employer to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) on your behalf, to the Regional Immigration Services 

  • Visit the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate, & submit the COE along with some other mandatory documents such as visa application form, passport, etc  

  • Wait for some working days  

  • Once approved, you'll be given your post-study work permit, which would give you t

Yes Indian students need work permit after their studies in Japan. Japan offer Designated Activities Visa to recently graduated students with validity of 1 year to allow them enough time to find permanent employment in country. 

Once employed, students can then apply for a work visa.
