Tohoku and UTokyo rank among the top 3 universities in Japan. Both carry a strong global reputation and come with affordable tuition. The choice of which is better depends on what a student is looking for.

Tohoku University is better for Indian students who want:

  • Lower tuition and living costs
  • quality English-taught STEM programs
  • Quieter, more focused academic environment

Uni Tokyo is better for Indian students interested in:

  • Better global reputation
  • Bigger alumni network
  • Vibrant metropolitan lifestyle

Romaji only helps with initial pronunciation. Because Japanese transit signs, university notices, and store menus are written using native scripts, learning Hiragana, Katakana, and basic Kanji is vital for daily independent survival and clearing official JLPT exams.

You should first learn simple and polite Japanese phrases. Konnichiwa (Hello), Arigatou gozaimasu: (Thank you), and Sumimasen: (Excuse me / Sorry) are some of them.

These words are helpful for you. If want to study in Japan.

The best way to save is by staying in university dorms. Use a student train pass for cheap travel. Buy household items at "100 Yen" stores. Also, cycling to campus instead of using the bus will save you thousands of Yen every single month.

Yes, Tokyo is more expensive than India but cheaper than London. You can manage costs by living in the suburbs and using student discounts. Many Indian students use scholarships to live comfortably. Safe streets and great facilities make this cost worth it.
