I think chances are high of getting into NIT and you will definitely be getting an NIT. For Open Category students, I think good branches are available in mediocre NITs and off-beat branches in old and well established NITs. It completely depends on the student. You can get admission in B.Tech through JEE score. Earlier admissions in marine engineering government. Institutions used to take place from your JEE advance rank, but nowadays there is a separate examination known as IMUCET. All admissions in top marine engineering institutions in India take place on basis of your rank in IMUCET examination. Except fore IITs where your JEE rank counts, every other institute has its own entrance examination. Now, all you need is to clear IMUCET and college-specific Entrance Test (if any).
