Astronomy is the branch of physics that deals with the study of celestial bodies like planets, stars, and galaxies. It refers to the study of objects outside the earth's atmosphere and their physical and chemical properties.
What does Astronomers do?
Astronomers are the observers who discovers information about how the universe works from the planets in our solar system. It includes study about the evolution of stars. Astronomer implements the principles of Mathematics and Physics to carry out research about the universe. They makes the use of telescopes and computer programs for gathering data on the characteristics of planets, moons, stars and other objects.
What is the best thing about astronomer?
They discover things that nobody have seen ever. They utilize their most of time in researching activities. The work of astronomer includes traveling, observing, writing reports, reading, teaching and working in offices.
How to become an astronomer?
To become an astronomer, a Ph.D. degree is compulsory. First, you have to complete your 10+2 examination under the science stream, especially in mathematics & physics. After that, you can join an undergraduate course in astronomy. You can join for an honors/major in physics with mathematics as a secondary subject. Thereafter, you can join postgraduate degree in physics or astronomy. After competing master degree, you can do specialisation in astronomy leading to Ph.D.

If you want to become a space scientist then you have to have a Ph.D. in astronomy or astrophysics. At undergraduate level, you have to study pure physics and then in Masters you can take astronomy, cosmology or astrophysics, etc. Most of the work related to space science is carried out at Physics Research Lab
If you want to become a scientist/engineer at ISRO then I will suggest you to study core engineering subjects, i.e. Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics.
