There are specific cut-off marks category wise, which is necessary to clear JEE. It varies every year. But generally, to get admission into the top NITs, you need to score at least 300+ (for general category).
However, the ranks depending on the number of candidates appearing for the exam.
This year cut off marks (JEE 2017) are:
1) General (OC) - 81
2) SC-32
3) ST-27
4) OBC-NCL-49
5) PWD- 1

The probability of getting a seat for CSE at SASTRA University is high with these marks. But the admission is also based on the number of applicants and the number of seats available.
So, you may try it in the counseling.

No, you can't take admission through JEE Mains as you have to appear in VITEEE and SRMJEEE to get admission in VIT and SRM University.

Normally, every state has common entrance test for admission to engineering colleges. Hence it's only CET through which you can get admission. Similarly for admissions to NITs it's JEE Mains which is the qualifying exam.

The maximum marks are 360. But for the admission, there are reservations based on the caste and so for each category, there has a different cut-off (only for JEE Mains).
However, for general category, it is sufficient to score 300 and above to get a top NIT.
