Master of business law is a new and promising career option. It is a two year degree course covering some major subjects like contract law, banking law, industrial relations law, corporate law, environmental law, insurance laws, investment laws, intellectual property law, law relating to foreign trade, and taxation of corporations.
An MBL is always preferred over any other graduate, as he specialises in as many as ten areas, which are very pertinent to the business community. MBL can do all the tasks, which an LL.B. graduate can do, except appearing in courts of law. MBL graduate can be a law officer, legal assistant, legal advisor in all the areas of business requirement. He / She will be preferred for posts in banks, factories, industrial houses, companies, railways, commerce and trade departments of government, central or state government offices, other statutory bodies of the Central or State Government.
National Law School of India University - Bangalore offers Masters of business law. The intellectual property rights courses provide insights into the national and international scenario in areas of IPR. This course covers laws related to patents, protection of plant varieties, geographical indications, copyright, trademarks and industrial designs.
A number of business and law schools have started giving specialization courses on intellectual property rights among which include:
1) IIT Kharagpur - Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law: Three year LLB program with specialization in intellectual property and one and half year post graduate Diploma in intellectual property law (PGDIPL).
2) 2. WIPO – IGNOU: One year post graduate Masters in IP Diploma through distance education.
3) One year PG Diploma in IPR law through distance education - National Law School of India University – Bangalore.

5 years LLB is not possible without an entrance. Yes you can take admission in 3 years LLB course without any entrance exam. There are colleges who offer admission on the merit basis.
LLB is a 3 years long course, which has started to be replaced by BA LLB course, which is 5 years long. Most colleges these days are preferring to offer BA LLB course to the candidates, which can be taken after completing class 12th. It is mandatory to appear for entrance exam for BA LLB course. The name of entrance exam is CLAT.
There is however no such requirement for LLB course. You can seek direct admission based on the merit. You will have to appear for an interview after which you will be given admission for LLB course.
Although, not every college follow this procedure and a large number of them prefer to select candidates through entrance exam.
The criteria for entrance exam is:
1. A Bachelor degree in any stream.
2. Minimum of 45% marks in Bachelor degree.
3. SC/ST need 40 percent marks.
4. Age limit for LLB is 30 years.
5. SC/ST gets 5 years relaxation in upper age limit.

The criteria for admission based on merit is also same. However, you will need to have good percentage to make the cut. Below are some colleges that offer admission through merit.
