The course provides employment to candidates with degrees in home science and specializations in food technology, nutrition or food services management. Diploma holders in dietetics, applied nutrition, food Science and preservation and those having certificate in dietetics or food and nutrition can also be employed in this industry. Bacteriologist, toxicologists and those trained in packaging technology, organic chemistry, biochemistry and analytical chemistry can find opening food technology laboratories or in quality control departments. A number of public sector undertakings in the department of food also require people in this field.
The Food Corporation of India, which handles the purchase, storage transport and distribution of food grains and other food items, provide employment to large number of people. Modern Food Corporation which markets bread, fruit juices, edible oils, soft drink concentrates and North-Eastern Agricultural Marketing Corporation which markets and process fruits and vegetables also recruit people. Self-employment opportunities also exist in the form of dynamic delivery networks for those who want to work on their own. Private sector companies have been the key players in the food sector and even companies like ITC are now moving into the sector, seeing the potential in processed foods.

By pursuing a Maste's degree you can get a job in pharmaceutical companies, food and dairy industries as a quality control employer, medical coder and the status increases with experience. Usually the payments are higher in pharma companies starting from 25-30k. Salary of a Quality control manager reaches upto 30-45 Lacs per annum. You can work as a college temporary teacher, researcher and as a lab assistant after your M.Sc programme (starting from 15-20k).
The place can be occupied as permanent by clearing NET exam (40k after permanent). After qualifying CSIR NET exam when you get enrolled in any CSIR institute for PhD you get a fellowship of 25k per month. You have many more opportunities if you do specialisation in a particular subject such as medical microbiology, clinical microbiology, immunology or geomicrobiology.

Food Science is a vast field. Off late, it has been booming tremendously. Food is a basic necessity for humans. So you can be assured that this industry will never face the drawbacks of recession. When it comes to food Science, there are two major divisions. One is the Food Science and Nutrition, and the other Food Science in the Food Industry. Both the fields are expanding in India and abroad. Im currently pursuing the latter one, but both are equally demanding. Food choices and lifestyles have changed over time. Diseases and Disorders have spread rapidly. Weight loss and Healthy Body goal are gaining popularity. This way a Nutritionist can help the vast amount of people and can cater to their needs. The Food Industry is another sector closely related to the Nutritional Sector as they deal with Nutritional Value of the Products sold in Markets. Food Industry requires you to work with a company to improve, innovate and protect food products. This is a field where many external industries come in contact as well, like management, packaging, etc. I selected the Food Industry line because it isn't cubicle or office type of work. You need to work in the industry. Meet new people. Generate ideas. Etc. It seemed more adventurous.
