Hi,
Rough date was around December 2017. The application process starts a year before the deadlines. You will find limited universities having December or January intake, for many May to June is the deadline.

Good question Arnav, see there is no straight answer to this. Every individual has his strong and weak points you have to be distinct on your own. Since MIT is the other name of innovation that is one area you should focus on. Outstanding project is a must. Physics has wide scope for this. Write in journals, get hold of top notch professors and work with them. Broaden your perspective, see how you can apply physics and where. Apart from academic does a good amount of community work and engage in your hobbies. Applying to MIT does not mean you should keep studying 24 hours. Be an all-rounder.
