With a 78.9 percentile in JEE Mains 2026, getting a Computer Science (CS) seat in a top-tier government college is very difficult.

If you just want a government college and are willing to skip CS, you can easily get branches like Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical engineering in your home state.

So, your best option for a Computer Science degree is to apply to private engineering colleges in your state that accept JEE Main scores.

A 3 year Diploma in CSE just after 10th is a great path for lateral entry into B.Tech or BCA. If you do not want to graduate and want a job directly, you can get into roles like Junior Software Developer, Programmer, IT Support / Help Desk, Database Administrator, etc. Just make sure you acquire the proper skill set to be able to crack job interviews and have good networking for good referral opportunities.

With a JEE Main 2026 SC category rank of 5,340, you are in a very strong position for Computer Science (CSE) at several top and mid-tier NITs. Let's break it down:

High-Probability NITs for CSE (SC Category, Rank ~5,300)

  • NIT Raipur (Chhattisgarh) – CSE cutoff ~6,000–7,000 (SC)
  • NIT Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) – CSE cutoff ~5,500–6,500 (SC)
  • NIT Patna (Bihar) – CSE cutoff ~6,000–7,000 (SC)
  • NIT Kurukshetra (Haryana) – CSE cutoff ~5,500–6,500 (SC)
  • NIT Durgapur (West Bengal) – CSE cutoff ~5,500–6,500 (SC)
  • NIT Hamirpur (HP) – CSE cutoff ~6,000–7,000 (SC)

Borderline Chances (may depend on JoSAA rounds)

  • JoSAA (NIT/IIIT/GFTI): ❌ Not possible.

  • State Govt Colleges (REAP Rajasthan): ✅ Possible, but mostly in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical.

  • Private Universities: ✅ Strong chance for CSE/IT/ECE.

👉 My advice:

  • Fill REAP AND OTHER STATES counseling for Rajasthan government colleges (you may get Civil/Mechanical/Electrical).

  • Apply to private universities in Jaipur (VGU, JECRC, Amity, Poornima) if you want CSE/IT.

  • Keep both routes open so you don't miss out.
