Hello Janvi,
The admissions in VIT are basically done on the basis of your score in JEE Mains or MHT-CET and you should have minimum 50% in 12th boards. These are the main criterias for the admission.
And for reference last year's cut offs are,
MHT-CET - 143/154
JEE Mains - 116/118

AICTE does not recognise Distance Engineering courses. So, be careful in this regard. Pursue a regular course instead or opt for evening classes.

Yes, you will be eligible for admission in mechanical engineering after completion of your Diploma, but then there are rules regarding the eligibility other than educational qualification also like domicile etcetera. I will therefore advise you to visit the website of directorate of technical education of Maharashtra. Details are available about different aspects of eligibility for lateral admission in engineering courses on this website. This website will also give you information about which branches of diploma are eligible for which branches of Engineering. Best wishes to you.
