In my opinion, VIT Vellore is better for mechanical engineering than RV College because VIT provides good course curriculum and good quality of mechanical faculty members.

If your JEE marks is poor, then you should try in private college. There are many good private colleges and universities still alive i.e. SRM, VIT, LPU, RVSCET etc.

Though you haven't mentioned your current qualifications. Would suggest you to grow your career in the Product engineering line as it will be beneficial for you in getting higher package and the position is open with many major companies of the world. So, try and look for opportunities or curses for Product manager.

I feel sorry to say, lateral entry is not allowed in NITs and IITs. But, don't loose hope. You can complete your B.Tech in other top state government colleges and private colleges, which defined will be fruitful for you. All the best.
