You can opt for correspondence course but not online Diploma in mechanical engineering because after the Supreme Court's order, professional courses like engineering doctorate, any science course is not a subject of distance or online-based education.

Of course, going for polytechnic is good if you want to be technically strong than those who are joining engineering after 12th. After joining Polytechnic, you will be technically sound already as compared to freshers coming from 12th. While those who are coming by doing 12th they will lack knowledge as compared to you. The 2nd important thing is you will not have to go for entrance exam while applying for Engineering. Sometimes, it's problematic to score in the entrance and get a good college.
