There are very less chances for you to get admission in a government college. For this, your rank must be under 500.

If you are expecting a very high placement from mechanical department them you need to give second thought as placement is good for CS or IS or EC department. In mechanical you need to work hard to get a placement you need to have good technical, management, programing knowledge.
Coming to fact of MVIT placement in mechanical I would say it's average.
All depends on you how to perform in your 4 years and one more thing beware of mechanical teachers.

Talent is not important but you should have required skills to get good placement. If you have low CGPA but more than 7.5, then you can get a good job if you have required skills like Masters in AutoCAD or designing, etc.

If you are staying in Ahmadabad, LD is definitely good for mechanical engineering. MSU is also good for mechanical engineering. The difference is only that MSU is a deemed university and LD is affiliated with GTU. GTU prefers bridge course and design engineering activities whereas MSU is not.
