In Physics, Power is the rate at which work is done or energy gets transferred per unit time. It is expressed by the following formulae:

P stands for power, W is for work, t is for time. Power is measured in unit Watt (W) where 1 watt = 1 joule per second. Another unit which is commonly used to measure the power is horsepower (hp), 1hp =746 W.
Power at a specific moment is instantaneous and over a period it is average.
