The mock tests are meant to be taken closer to the NIFT exam. This means you won't gain a lot of benefit if you start taking mock tests early in your exam preparation. Instead, in the early stages, solve sample papers and previous years' question papers. You can solve sample papers after completing a topic; for instance, pick all the relevant questions related to that topic and solve them. In the last few days leading up to the exam, you can start taking mock tests. The mock tests will help you plug last-minute gaps and understand what the exam day would look and feel like.

Along with sample papers, mock tests are considered essential tools to prepare for the NIFT exam. However, considering that the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) may or may not conduct mock tests for the NIFT exam, the candidate may conduct mock tests of other exams. For instance, the candidate may take mock tests conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). But it may be noted that the difficulty level of the SEED exam is not on par with the NIFT exam. The mock tests will include representative questions or questions similar to the ones asked in the entrance exam. So, by taking the mock tests, the candidate will get to know about the types of questions asked, marking scheme, weightage, etc. Another important benefit the candidate can draw from solving a sample paper is understanding the question paper layout. For instance, the candidate will know which questions are placed where, the sequence of questions, whether the candidate needs to complete one section before moving to the next, etc.
