For admission to the PhD course, NIT Calicut accepts the scores of entrance exams like GATE/CSIR NET/UGC NET/ JEST/NBHM/KSCSTE and the Written Test conducted by the institute. Candidates are shortlisted based on merit in these entrance exams and are further called for an interview round.

As per unofficial sources, the total tuition fee of the two-year Master of Planning (MPlan) course offered at NIT Calicut is INR 1.4 lakh. Thus, is indicative. The hostel charges are INR 1.55 Lacs and a one-time fee payment of INR 30,500 also has to be paid at the time of admission. Bachelor's degree (BPlan or equivalent) with a minimum of 60% aggregate is the basic eligibility for the Master of Planning (MPlan) course offered at NIT Calicut. Candidate must have the UG degree in relevant discipline. The degree must have been issued by a recognised university/institute. Candidates must hold the relevant documents as well as a proof of eligibility.
