Master's in Business Administration or MBA is a degree course offered by the Universities (both Government and Private) and Colleges affiliated to these Universities. Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a Diploma programme offered by B-schools/Colleges that are recognized by Government of India's nodal body for technical education - All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Better among the two (MBA or PGDM): It is a never ending debate for the education consultant and academicians. Here are the reasons. MBA is offered in some of the India's best B Schools like FMS Delhi, Narsee Monjee, Symbiosis Pune, JBIMS and few reputed business schools. PGDM is offered in prestigious IIM Ahmedabad (Number 1 Ranked B School of India), Other IIMS, Xaviers, S P Jain, TAPMI Manipal, IMT Ghaziabad, etc. Now, one must understand that there are Business Schools which are good for MBA and there are Business Schools which are good for PGDM also. It is not appropriate to decide which course is better. Student must decide only the Business School. Just like Universities how they have a value based on their reputation. It would be wise to choose a Business School, on several parameters (Placement, Faculty, curriculum, exposure, teaching methodology, fee, etc.). As per my experience and observation, genuinely speaking, if you have both options to do MBA or PGDM from an average college or an average B-school, it would be better recommended to opt for PGDM.
