IIT's are prestigious but when it comes to PhD, you should probably opt for a course abroad if you have decent marks in your undergraduate and graduate programs, as the job opportunities almost triple.
IITs are mainly good for pursuing engineering, that's what I believe

Hello Sapna,
Yes, it is possible because:
1. Candidates must hold a Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification of any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislatures in India or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament.
2. Candidates of B.Sc / BA honours must have minimum 55% marks in average in their honours subject.
