GFTS is one of the top government-held flying training schools in Bangalore. The institute has an average intake of 20 to 25 students per batch for Commercial Pilot's License (CPL) training.
The duration of the CPL course is approximately 24 months, which includes a compulsory minimum flying requirement of 200 hours.
It also includes theoretical courses in air regulation, air navigation, aircraft general training, and technical training specific to aircraft and engines.
The eligibility criteria are given below.
Age: The minimum age required is 17 years, and the upper age limit is 35 years.
Academic: The applicant must have cleared 10 + 2 with Physics and Math from a recognized board or equivalent.
Medical fitness: The applicant should be medically fit as per the standards laid down by DGCA. Candidates are required to undergo a medical examination with a DGCA-approved medical practitioner or medical board and be found fit.
The total course fee is estimated between INR 20 and 21 lacs.
Eligible candidates may directly register with the institution; thereafter, it will release a merit list of successful candidates per batch.

There is no conventional learning involved in the pilot training course but a series of written and medical tests with hands-on practical flying time and instruction that help the student proceed through the course. There are around 110 flying/pilot training colleges in India, and out of them, approximately 98% are private. Normally, a student first gets a Student Pilot License (SPL), then moves on to a Private Pilot License (PPL), and then finally proceeds to a Commercial Pilot License (CPL). The minimum age of the candidate must be 16 years old. The candidate must have passed the Class 10 examination. The candidate must clear all the fitness tests and have a bank guarantee of Rs. 10,000.
