You can definitely get admission in IITs since they treat Diploma as equivalent to 12th. However, unfortunately, NITs don't. Then many state government's have also declared Diploma as equivalent to 12th which makes you eligible. You can find information about your state on the webpage of DTE of education of your state.

Various branches are available in Diploma course: DECE, DEEE, DCSE, D Civil, D Mech, D Mechatronics, D Chemical, DITI. Mechanical department is the best branch. Go with that in which you have more interest. Best of luck.
