Admission to all distance education programmes of Pondicherry University is done on the basis of merit scores in the last qualifying exam. While the UG students get admission on the basis of their Class 12 scores, PG aspirants of distance learning at Pondicherry University are offered admission subject to their merit at the UG level. Admissions to distance learning courses are offered twice a year – Jan to Mar and then from Jul to Aug. Those meeting the course-wise eligibility can secure admission to this university.

Up until 2021, MBA admissions at Pondicherry University were based on the CAT exam. Candidates were further shortlisted based on the scores obtained in the entrance exams and their performance in GD-PI. However, starting the admission year 2022-23 the university started accepting students via the CUET PG entrance exam. Those who appear and qualify the exam are allotted a seat for MBA at the Pondicherry University campus and affiliated colleges via university-level counselling.

Any candidate who has done bachelors' in the relevant stream can apply for the MA programme of Pondicherry University. However, the final selection of students is based on the scores obtained in the CUET PG entrance test conducted by NTA. After the exam, the students are required to register on the official website of the university and appear for the counselling process. After this, those with their names available in the merit lists released by the University can confirm their admission or block their seats by paying the admission fee.

Yes, 25% of the total seats are reserved for Puducherry Union territory candidates in courses, namely:

In addition to this, 20% reservation is kept for Pondicherry UT candidates in MBA (Business Administration) courses.

Yes, Pondicherry University, starting in 2022 is enrolling students in its Integrated PG and PG courses via CUET UG and CUET PG exams, respectively.

  • Central University Entrance Test (CUET) is an all-India level entrance exam conducted by NTA for admission in UG courses offered in all the participating institutions. The exam is conducted in a computer-based mode for two hours. Originally CUCET was conducted by UGC in paper-pencil-based mode. In general, the admission process begins in March every year. For the admission session 2025-26, the application process started with the registration process of CUET on the official website of NTA. The university accepts CUET-UG for admission to its PG-integrated courses. To appear for the same, students must have completed their Class 12 with relevant subjects.
