You can pursue B.Tech with CSE to become a software engineer. I would suggest you to take CSE as it has a better scope than IT.

USA policy changes on Outsourcing and Visa will definitely impact IT industry but opportunities for good CSE and IT engineer will not diminish. Also, we must wait for policy announcement and its details to study its impact on IT industry in a long run.

It is not necessary to have IT or CS as an additional subject to do engineering or BCA to become a software engineer.

Hello Gautam,
Software engineering is a branch of engineering. You need to have science background to pursue the same. As you have enrolled in commerce, you cannot opt for computer science engineering. However, if you want to proceed further with computers, mathematics and computers as your subjects in your class 12th, then certain universities allow such students for BCA.
I hope it helps.

Career options after both software and mechanical engineering degrees are equally good. Mechanical engineering is an evergreen branch of engineering with not much changes in market demand in last 50 years. Software industry has started showing sign of decline in India. Therefore, based on market forecast, I will like to recommend Mechanical engineering over software engineering.
