Candidates must receive 45% (40% for reserved categories) in Physics, Mathematics, and one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, or a Technical Vocational subject in their 10+2 coursework in order to be admitted to the B.E./B.Tech programme at A.R. Engineering College (AREC), Villupuram. TNEA counseling, which is based on 10+2 grades, is the main method of admission. When filling out the choice form, register, submit your documents, and choose AREC. Direct admission based on merit is possible through management quota seats, for which you can apply at the college. Diploma holders can use TNEA to apply for lateral entry.

Government programs, such as the Tamil Nadu Post-Matric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC students offer scholarships to A.R. Engineering College (AREC) that cover tuition costs according to income standards. Scholarships based on merit honor academic achievement and may lower tuition costs. First Graduate Scholarships help students who are going to college for the first time in their family. Usually eligibility requires a valid TNEA counseling document and 50% in 10+2. However there have been reports of administrative delays in processing scholarships so students should double-check information when applying.

A.R. Engineering College (AREC) can be considered an average college. It is affiliated with Anna University and approved by the AICTE. It offers basic facilities including a library and sufficient labs, although there aren't hostel amenities. With 50–60% placement rates and packages up to INR 4 LPA from firms like TCS, placements remain modest. Although they lack industry exposure, faculty members are qualified. Because there aren't many extracurricular activities, campus life is ranked poorly. It's not a great option, but it's appropriate for students on a tight budget.
